So Much Time
by Lisa Lynne Mathis © 2006
I am in continued awe of the goodness of my guy. This is a bit of a diary entry song, where I reveal a little of the hard lessons of my creative life that I have unloaded on him relentlessly. Rather than ignore the painful parts or dwell on them, I’m learning to embrace them as a part of who I am. And because my life partner gets dragged through this emotional quagmire, too, they are also a part of who we are.
So much time
So many hours spent
Constructing dreams we may never live
But that’s alright
Its just a part of who we are
I’m just fine
I’ll get the kick in my stride again
They say what follows pain is new-found clarity
So soon we’ll see
Its just a part of who we are
Oh, won’t you take my hand
Come walk away with me
You don’t have to understand
Or even see what I see
There’s no crime
In saying what might be hard to hear
But baby won’t you be mine
Year after year
Through all the fear and longing
That’s just a part of who we are
