The Simple Answer
by Lisa Lynne Mathis © 2006

If you were to ask me directly why I sing, this would be the answer. The inside joke is that I don’t believe much or really like simple answers!

You’re walking down every aisle
What section am I in?
What is the name
For this thing I need to do

Good idea
Just can’t get your brain around
Who I am
And what is this sound?
Why pull the curtain back on darkness?
The crowd, it much prefers the light

I just sing
Oh, I sing
I sing until I see better
I sing
And I play
Though the world may not change
My soul gets rearranged
So I can hear You
And I feel better

Don’t make me think too much
Just spell it out for me, you say
What’s with all this grey
Keep it black and white

So what’ the story,
What’s the angle,
What’s the line?
What haven’t you heard
A thousand times?
Why pull the curtain back on darkness?
The crowd, it much prefers the light

Well, I sing, I just sing
I sing until I see better
I sing and I play
Though the world may not change
My heart gets rearranged
So I can hear You
And I feel better (repeat)
