Comfort Zone
by Lisa Lynne Mathis © 2006

It would be a gaping hole in the album for me not to have a song that reflects on what having a child feels like to me. Its powerful stuff, and I worry that I’m not cut out for it, but the love is so intense that it overcomes any doubt I might have had about whether or not I can be the mother my girls need and deserve. For me, this song is about the shocking, terrifying love a mother experiences for her children; overwhelming, all consuming, sometimes even too much. Maybe for you it’s about NEW love ... or even new faith ... whatever has yanked you out of your comfort zone.

I can’t breathe
Could somebody open a window?
Too much for me
You overwhelm
Your shining eyes
They bore a hole right through my soul and I
Am so surprised
By the way I feel

And you keep me
living in the moment and you
And you move me
Out of my comfort zone
And when I disappoint you,
I will need forgiveness
But I need to tell you
You have changed my life for good

I have not one clue
Could somebody get me the manual?
Too much for me
To figure you out
Your killing smile
Brings me to my knees each time and I
Am not sure how
I deserve you

And you keep me living in the moment and you
And you move me
Out of my comfort zone
And when I disappoint you I will need forgiveness
But I need to tell you
You have changed my life for good
