ABOUT LISA
Known for her rich, penetrating alto and soul-searching lyrics, singer-songwriter Lisa Lynne Mathis brings a timely perspective to popular music. A student of the human condition, Lisa Lynne sings about the challenges, joys and complexities of life that we all face. Diverse musical influences can be heard throughout her debut album, Hancock Place (Garagista, 2007, be they pop, jazz, gospel or rock, and comparisons are often made to artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Marc Cohn and Christian artist Nicole Nordeman.
Most recently, Lisa Lynne sang with Jason Mraz at Feinstein’s (NY) with select singers from Grammy-nominated Broadway Inspirational Voices, for the 2008 Tony Awards, and also with Jason Mraz, both at Radio City Music Hall. Lisa Lynne (with BIV) was privileged to sing with Sir Elton John on his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour. In 2007, Lisa Lynne opened for Grammy-winner Paula Cole at the Tarrytown Music Hall and appeared on the Listening Room on www.LoHud.com performing a live webcast in their studio. On April 10, 2008 she performed at the notable Metropolitan Room in downtown Manhattan and in July 2008, she was interviewed on Pittsburgh morning television news for her performance of her song, the Greatest Embrace, in a packed stadium of the US Transplant Games Closing Ceremony. Additionally, she showcased her music in concert at the Irvington Town Hall Theater (NY) in October, 2007. Performing with her were Grammy-winners guitarist Jay Azzolina (Spyro Gyra), saxophonist Tim Ries (Rolling Stones) and Tony and Grammy-nominated singer and arranger Michael McElroy (BIV). With the world renowned Broadway Inspirational Voices in New York, she has performed for Brian Stokes Mitchell’s Carnegie Hall debut, appeared on NBC’s Today Show and sung in Broadway’s Town Hall and New Amsterdam Theatre, where she appeared before Barack Obama.
In Chicago, Lisa Lynne was a part of the elite vocal ensembles Bella Voce, The William Ferris Chorale and the Grant Park Symphony Chorus. Also while in Chicago, she provided vocal coaching and back-ground vocals for rocker Liz Phair on the 1998 Lillith Fair Tour, Showtime Television, and Late Night with David Letterman.
Lisa Lynne is currently the Associate Music Minister at Ridgeway Alliance Church of White Plains, NY, and leads the Christian Rock service on Saturday nights, Presence. She also serves as an Adjust Professor to Nyack College in the Department of Worship Ministry. She lives in New Canaan, CT with her husband, two daughters and four labradors.
